Cult Survivors Equine Therapy

Equine therapy and eco therapy are suitable adjunct supports for people who have exited cult situations. This may include those that we understand as traditional cult experiences and also any high control group or individual situations including coercive control relationships (1:1cults).
Equine therapy is offered as individual therapy sessions, typically in one-hour blocks although intensive half day, or longer sessions can also be arranged.
Our sessions are an opportunity to rehearse or consolidate new ways to be in a safe and inclusive setting.
Horses help us to:
- Establish and practice boundaries
- Learn mindfulness and breathing techniques in nature
- Develop awareness of verbal and non-verbal communication
- Form safe, healthy bonds and rebuild trust
- Regain a sense of control and empowerment
- Practice softening and relaxation as a response to hyper vigilance
- Feel safety in emotional expression
- Examine belief and values in a new context
- Benefit from the acceptance of animals and reaffirm a sense of meaning and self
- Experience ‘feeling good’ in a low demand setting
- Share in a new sense of community
Sessions are offered in Launching place at Wedgetail Therapy.
Group sessions available on request and developed to respond to specific needs of group.
What is Equine Therapy?
Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) is an interaction between horses and people designed to promote experiential learning for participants. In this program we interact with horses to discover our creative resources and ways to move through potential blockages.
Our ability to be safe, spacious, mindful and open to possibility are all key aspects of the EFL experience that can directly relate to our creativity.
EFL has a long and successful history in supporting people to develop personal effectiveness. Applying this vast field of experience to the area of creativity is a new frontier in the understanding of how we can tap our potential and enhance our creative lives.
EFL sessions bring together horses and people in a safe, supervised space designed to elicit positive and empowering interaction. www.efl.net.au EFL also promotes strategies to attain healthier relationships and improve communication and group and family dynamics.
